Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Based on elderly persons with cognitive impairment needs and requirements of an ICT-based device as support to maintain an independent life, SALIG++ project developed an ICT-based device that could be used as support in everyday activities and with possibilities for remote support from informal and formal caregivers.

Results and expected effects

Even if the prototype was not fully developed the results from the user evaluation showed that the SALIG++ product has potential to facilitate everyday life for elderly persons with cognitive impairment. A benefit was that the product also could be used by informal and formal caregivers remotely to support the elderly person. SLL has published a scientific article describing the development process in BMC Geriatrics (Boman, Persson, & Bartfai, 2016). SLL has presented the project in national and international conferences.

Approach and implementation

Elderly persons with cognitive impairments needs and requirements were examined through a scoping review and focus groups. Based on the identified needs and requirements eight use cases were formulated. After that a first mock-up was developed in an iterative design process. The mock-up was then evaluated by the target group. Based on the results from the mock-up evaluation a first prototype was developed in an iterative design process. The prototype was then evaluated by formal caregivers. Collected data was analysed with qualitative content analysis and descriptive statistics
