Purpose and goal

The main purpose and aim of the project was to design and build a rotating prototype of the type of electrical machine that Hagnesia is developing, and thereby verify that the machine type works both mechanically and electromagnetically. This goal is so far only partially fulfilled, since the manufacturing of the permanent magnets were delayed 3 months. We hope that the goal will be fulfilled during March 2020.

Expected results and effects

The results this far is that the design has been completed and that all parts for the machine except the permanent magnets have been manufactured. We have found good and promising solutions of the technical challenges we encountered. We have also carried out more technical evaluations of the technology with experts in the field, and we have made a generic parameterized CAD-model of the machine which to a large extent can be used in future projects.

Planned approach and implementation

The project phases can be divided into design, theoretical/numerical evaluation, ordering parts, assembly and evaluation. The design phase went well. The machine parts, fixtures and mounting tools have good manufacturing properties and reasonable mounting properties. A CAD model of the machine was created. The ordering phase went essentially well. Unfortunately, however, the permanent magnets were wrongly magnetized due to a mistake at the manufacturer and had to be remanufactured, which significantly delayed assembly and testing / evaluation activities to March 2019.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
