Simpatico - an innovative patient case service

Reference number
Coordinator MED UNIVERSE AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration March 2014 - June 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim was to conduct a pre-study with the aim to obtain data that will strengthen our assumptions that our patient case tool has a large market potential without having to pay participating physicians monetarily. The tests that we have done over the period confirm our hypothesis. Those clients who have been involved in the tests are all very satisfied with the involvement of physicians who have responded to the digital patient cases (see key metrics below). We also received valuable feedback from individual doctors that we take with us in the further development of Simpatico.

Results and expected effects

We have obtained a large number of data points from our pilot that indicate that we still do not have to pay the doctors to interact with the patient present in the patient tool. We see clear indications that it is more important that credible doctors created and peer-reviewed the patient case, the medical relevance of the case and the learnings for the physician, how the patient case is marketed in mailing, the length and rhetoric of the patient case and the title that is added to the e-mail subject. We have obtained higher opening rates than previously and participation levels of 1.5% to 6.7%.

Approach and implementation

A total of three tests of patient cases and a test of a traditional survey as a reference during the project period were conducted. In total, we have communicated patient / survey, via e-mail distribution to 11 medical groups (approximately 5600 Swedish doctors in speciality training or medical specialist). Doctors´ interactions with the patient cases have been aggregated into the tool and gave us key metrics such as the doctors´drop-out rate´ in the case, how long it will take to complete, etc. The results have been analyzed and take us to the next phase of development of the tool.
