Important results from the project
The primary goal of the pilot project was: I.Create a transition from previous project until a new constellation has been formed and a relevant project plan has been formulated. II.Make technical and economic studies of forming methods for MMC material, enabling an economic full scale production. This has been accomplished through the formation of a new constellation of companies, universities and institutions jointly intent to pursue a future research project in this area.
Expected long term effects
The studies performed has indicated that the chosen forming method have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of the material. It has also been found potential to improve the economic conditions for production of components from MMC, mostly by a better utilization of available production capacity.
Approach and implementation
The project has primarily been performed as a master thesis, that later has been supplemented with further studies on relevant areas. Most work has been done on a laboratory level to investigate material properties and the applicability of different forming methods. Some case studies have been conducted in collaboration mainly with Volvo Cars AB, including the economic incentive among others for future production of MMC components.
