Purpose and goal

Today´s consumer is always connected: researching products, gathering reviews and purchasing items anywhere. Even though physical stores still make up the majority of shopping, the retail shopping experience hasn´t changed fundamentally for thousands of years. Selitera´s solution is connecting the physical with the digital and leverages the natural user intuition of pointing to objects in physical space in order to connect with digital space. This has been proven to be a form of interaction desirable to the user and revolutionary for the retailer.

Expected results and effects

Selitera has successfully developed the customer part of the experience and have documented agreements with retailers to deploy the solution internationally. The agreements are with GANT UK to set up SL in the Regent Street GANT store for an initial period of 6 weeks. A second agreement was signed with Iretail Netherland to deploy SL in a pop-up store in Amsterdam for a period of 8 weeks. The pop-up store is a showcase of retail technology sponsored by LG and Adidas.

Planned approach and implementation

Selitera´s solution takes the physical store and transforms it into a multi-user virtual 3D screen for the products in the store. Selitera have developed a ´app-free´ HTML5 extension to smart phone functionality which allows for the gesture of natural pointing. By pointing the smart phone at a 2D or 3D object, the system instantly recognizes this action and gives visual feedback to the user using light or images. In this way, the interest of the user is recognized and a bridge is automatically formed between the physical object and relevant online information.
