Important results from the project
The project has reached its goal. The goal for the project ha been to translate an existing e-learning solution from Swedish to Arabic and try it on immigrated high school students and evaluate the effect of providing them with subject related teaching in there first language; how it affects the students´ level of knowledge and the socio-economic advantages. The project has done all of this within given time and budget frames.
Expected long term effects
A translated e-learning solution has the following positive effects: - The efficiency of learning Swedish is increased - The efficiency of learning the subjects is increased and can be started much earlier - The efficiency of first language coaching is dramatically improved - Parents get integrated in school work Lack of grades to enter post-high school education often leads to a life outside the normal society, without a job, that costs the society 10-15 Mkr. 28% of immigrants finish school with such grades. To translate the e-learning solution into four languages would cost 20 Mkr.
Approach and implementation
To translate from Swedish to Arabic has been more difficult than expected. To engage schools to try a new tool in the middle of a term during a period of lots of vacation, national exams and grade settings has been challenging. Apart from that, the approach and implementation has worked well.
