Important results from the project
The overall goal is to make secondary aggregate materials a natural and routine part of the procurement of urban infrastructure and thereby promote sustainable construction with locally generated materials. The Step 1 project aimed to bring together interested parties, discuss solutions, review the need for expansion of the consortium and make an inventory of the partners ´interests and needs, and formulate a joint plan for the road ahead, i. e. in the form of a submitted proposal to step 2. The goals for step 1 are met.
Expected long term effects
The consortium has agreed on the relevant material streams to work on and in what way. The plan is to take full advantage of previous project and demos and employ a more systemic approach in step 2, including various experiments and pilots in lab and field, work with business models, logistics solutions and environmental requirements, communication and education needs. Expected effects are, among other things, transparent and uniform regulations that are at the same time less restrictive of competition. Increased confidence in the use of these materials leads to higher utilization
Approach and implementation
In 2 workshops we discussed partners´ needs and motives for participation, their experiences of the various materials and attempts at solutions over the years. Previous and ongoing, parallel, project have been discussed and contacted to collaborate rather than duplicate. Then we agreed on material choices and possible solution paths forward to try and evaluate in step 2. In a few cases, different thoughts about the most effective solution are found. It will be tested in step 2. The consortium could also easily be expanded with the necessary expertise for the collaboration project.
