Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was for Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset to coordinate an EU proposal to BHC-06 - Digital diagnostics. The project initially built on a collaboration on breast cancer and an ongoing H2020 project (BigMedilytics) on prostate cancer coordinated by Philips. The consortium consisted of 18 partners including 10 university hospitals and/or their academic institutions and 8 industry players focusing on IT, medical technology, and research (including 6 SMEs), as well as LoU from 12 organizations.

Expected results and effects

The project has developed a project plan and a consortium that wants to implement the project, the proposal is submitted in the H2020 portal. The project partners have all said that they want to collaborate regardless of funding from the EU and a number of meetings to discuss what can be done already have taken place. The decision on funding from the EU is expected in November 2020, if positive the work on grant agreement preparation and consortium agreement is started with an expected project start in Q1 2021. Pending on request, cooperation continues and certain activities are started.

Planned approach and implementation

The project developed a plan for a research and innovation project focusing on the method of secure data collection, technological development, and clinical implementation, as well as a strong consortium of relevant actors at the European level. In order to be implemented, healthcare (clinics and hospital IT) were driving the requirements. The work was carried out through 5 FtF workshops (2xStockholm, Paris, Leuven, and London), in working groups, individual- and through 20 video meetings. The final consortium includes all relevant competencies to carry out the project.
