Reference number
Coordinator SPELPLAN-ASGD AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 600 000
Project duration December 2013 - December 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The initial idea was to create processes for gender-aware game development. But the result of the project´s initial studies was the realization that there was need for another kind of initiative before it was relevant to create such processes. The goal of the project instead became to create a collective force for increased diversity throughout the entire games sector, i.e. both in the content of the games and among those who play and develop games. The project therefore developed a platform for this, Diversi, and implemented it with great success.

Results and expected effects

Diversi enables operators from the game companies, game education programs and gamer communities to inspire, help and push each other´s diversity efforts. Diversi is now providing channels and forums for people in the sector to exchange knowledge and ideas; supports and creates collaborations between them; and helps them to reward each other´s initiatives. Through Diversi, the sector has also found a common voice for diversity and against sexism, racism etc. in the sector.

Approach and implementation

The project has created the platform Diversi based on an analysis of the conditions, obstacles and opportunities for diversity in the games industry. The analysis is based on past studies and experiences as well as observations and interviews. The platform has been designed, implemented and further developed by a gradually expanded collaboration with people from all over the games sector (game companies, game education programs and gamer communities), where more and more collaborators have been included step by step.
