Purpose and goal
The project aims to develop new ways of working for the reuse of track switches that reduce climate impact and strengthen circularity in railway maintenance. The goal is to identify obstacles and opportunities for reuse, develop ways of working for traceability and inventory, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,800 tons per year by reusing 200 track switches.
Expected effects and result
The project´s expected effects are to contribute to the Swedish Transport Administration´s climate goals, reduce costs, and strengthen the railway system´s robustness. Implementing the project´s results is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,800 tons of CO2 per year, corresponding to 18,000 tons of CO2 over a 10-year period.
Planned approach and implementation
A central part of the project is to document the unique expertise of track managers before these experts retire, which is imminent. This knowledge is crucial for effective organizational learning, as it identifies obstacles and opportunities for a circular approach in both contracted and in-house maintenance. Data is collected through interviews with former track managers and current and former project managers.
