Relining of district heating pipes

Reference number
Coordinator HWQ RELINING SYSTEMS AKTIEBOLAG
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 350 000
Project duration March 2014 - September 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has met with a number of challenges througout the eecution period. Amongst other things the choice of materials turned out to require a lot more effort than expected. This was due to the corrosion resistance demands and practical handling properties of the product were not easy to achieve in one and the same product. Through methodical work the project produced a product that is ready for market introduction at small scale.

Expected results and effects

The product is ready for installation in smaller scale. This includes a first production plant for installation ready relining liners, complete with a full established world class supply chain. The product will now be marketed and a number of pilot projects will be carried out with customers for product evaluation. The interest amongst Swedish district heating network owners is very large. The product has also raised interest with international players in the field.

Planned approach and implementation

The main goal of the project was to find a material that could withstand the corrosion resistance demands placed on a product for relining district heating pipes. This proved more difficult than expected, the project methodology was changed to use smaller samples for shorter durations. This led to successfull identification of the constituent materials. During practical implementation tests other difficulties were identified with liner production. The solution means the product is now more mature than expected which has led to the possibility of an earlier market introduction.
