Status Completed

Important results from the project

New solutions in the form of information material to increase the amount of collected cooking oil have been developed and tested with intended recipients. Set targets for drug residues were adjusted from collection of leftover drugs to other upstream measures and downstream purification of drug residues. The adjusted target was motivated by new knowledge about what currents of drug residues generate the most severe environmental strain. New challenges like source sorting sewers were addressed but were not taken on. New stakeholders have been included in the work on drug residues.

Expected long term effects

The project has generated new solutions for reduction of fat, but also drug residues in the sewers. New information materials and new strategies are expected to generate an increased amount of collected fat and better operation. Initiatives have been taken for upstream measures at the infection Clinic at the nearby hospital with focus on reduced risk of spreading antibiotic resistance. Environmental scanning for fat and drug residues has generated increased knowledge for future work together with new stakeholders. For now, however, this will not happen within a reality lab.

Approach and implementation

In the sub-project on fat in the sewage, interviews were conducted with 86 residents to clarify the current situation and potential of developing the current system of collection. On this basis, new information material has been developed and a new container for collection is to be tested. In the case of drug residues, purification techniques for drug residues in sewers were prioritized over collection of residual drugs due to new knowledge of the environmental impact of consumed drugs. This work was focused on environmental scanning, sampling and contact with new stakeholders.
