Reference number
Coordinator ACREO SWEDISH ICT AB - Acreo Swedish ICT AB, Kista
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 800 000
Project duration September 2011 - February 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aims at producing multiservice Quality of Experience (QoE) estimator agents representing a human user. The final review of the project got excellent reviews. Acreo´s goal for the first part of the project was to study 3D video QoE, which was also fulfilled. The goals for Acreo shifted after the MTR to target standardization questions around daylight readability together with Volvo Cars and TCO Development, which was done. Acreo also had a goal to give inputs to video quality standardization through involvement with VQEG. This has been fulfilled especially for 3D video QoE

Results and expected effects

The overall result of the development of QuEEN agent will be useful telecom operators for monitoring their QoE in the network. Acreo results on 3D video QoE will go into ITU standardization and will therefore improve the common practice on how to perform subjective 3D video quality assessment. The result on daylight readability will be useful for Volvo Cars in their marketing of their new display in their cars and TCO Development has got useful input on their work in revising and updating their requirement especially for tablets and mobile phones.

Approach and implementation

Acreo´s work has been divided into two parts. The work up to the MTR was mostly targeting 3D video quality and input on this mainly provided into WP 2 and WP 4. 3D subjective experiments were done and the results were given as input to consortium. The work after the MTR was reported in WP 7 and involved daylight readability of displays. A subjective study was performed, together with Volvo and TCO Development, for understanding the impact of strong ambient illumination on readability 3D video quality standardizations. Input to 3D video quality standardization was given to the ITU.
