Protection from harmful emissions indoors

Coordinator LUNDS UNIVERSITETS INNOVATIONSSYSTEM AKTIEBOLAG
Funding from Vinnova SEK 734 900
Project duration May 2012 - June 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has involved various aspects of commercialization of the cTrap, an adsorption cloth designed to trap and immobilize moisture caused harmful emissions indoors. The cTrap has been tested comprehensively in laboratory experiments. Tests in water damaged buildings have verified that the cTrap greatly reduces particle-borne airborne emissions, such as molds and mycotoxins, as well as volatile organic compounds, including odors. A business plan has been developed demonstrating a market need for the product. The company cTrap AB was formed in June 2013.

Results and expected effects

The cTrap cloth is a unique product with high adsorption efficiency and capacity in combination with an almost non-existent resistance for water vapour. The business plan demonstrates that there is a market need for the cTrap and that the proposed price for the end customer is realistic. Initially we will seek cooperation with building remediation experts and real estate companies in order to gain acceptance for the product, with applications in schools, kindergartens, homes for the elderly etc.

Approach and implementation

Emphasis was placed on developing a business plan with market assessments, organizational and sales strategies, assessment of price sensitivity etc. Discussions with external building material experts from the university and the construction industry led to additional tests in water-damaged buildings (where the cTrap gave improvements of the perceived air quality and according to instrumental measurements) and laboratory studies e.g. including a study on the long-term stability, up to 10 years, by using accelerated aging in climatic chamber.
