Procurement of a passage system to support the availability and mobility at Lund UnIversity

Purpose and goal

In general the need for an increased accessibility is great and new security solutions can benefit from public innovation procurement, especially as many actors today work with their own solution. A strategy has been developed for public procurement that promotes the creation of a system for open source. This is expected to become driving force for solving the public need for more integrated access control system, to create a platform for new solutions within this field and to contribute to give Swedish companies a head start internationally (through the development of a new standard).

Results and expected effects

The need of new integrated security solutions and the creation of an open source platform create prerequisites for innovation. A test bed is to be developed in order to generate more new solutions within the field. With a critical mass of users, developers will be drawn to the open source platform. For the LU this is expected to contribute to new flows, cost efficiency and innovation climate. In the long term, the expectations are to create a new standard that can benefit Swedish enterprise internationally through the development of new applications.

Approach and implementation

The needs for increased accessibility have been clarified. An analysis of different solutions and suppliers has been conducted. In all, 28 companies have been identified and dialogue has been held with 5 companies. An RFI has been sent. 5 workshops with external actors have been held. An internal group of different departments of the LU has been formed this has contributed to a gradual anchoring at the university. A meeting with other colleges and universities in Sweden has been held in order to discuss the needs. New contacts and relations have been developed with other public actors.
