Project duration November 2016 - October 2020
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The aim is to develop a basis for policies and business models for carbon storage. Knowledge on financial and business opportunities for carbon storage were developed. As shown in 5 scientific papers, there are both challenges and opportunities to establish negative emissions. Most importantly, the project shows important possibilities of valuing negative emissions at the consumer side. These are important findings for developing sustainable business models for climate positive products. The conclusion is that the price of such products will only marginally increase in price.

Expected long term effects

Five scientific publications have been completed. They show how negative emissions can be vaued. A conclusion is that to make consumer products climate positive by means of storage of biogenic carbon emissions would only marginally affect the price of the products. Many (35) talks have been given on these conclusions and related findings. Thus, we believe the projects to have contributed to the strong increase in interest in negative emissions and how these can contribute to climate positive products, including how to find sustainable business models for such products.

Approach and implementation

The project has combined stakeholder interaction, interaction with other research projects, value chain analysis related to different industries and writing scientific papers. It should be stressed that there has been a strong development during the execution of the project due to the growing interest in climate change mitigation, spurred by the increased challenge to meet climate targets. Thus, the analysis and activities have been adjusted to the development. The stakeholder interaction has given valuable input to the analysis and writing of the scientific papers.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
