Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to, from a user perspective, develop and design a next generation polarization modulator allowing integration inside compact 3D-projectors. The product shall with a robust design be able to perform optimally in a harsh environment. By fulfilling all defined objectives is LC-Tec now ready to cost efficiently manufacture the newly developed polarization modulator at the company´s production line in Borlänge, Sweden.
Expected long term effects
The within the project developed polarization modulator for compact 3D-projectors means an important broadening of LC-Tec´s product portfolio, which increases the company´s competitiveness and possibility to establish itself on an expanding and global market. A significant spin-off effect from the implementation of the project is that LC-Tec now also can offer LC-based optical shutters for laser applications.
Approach and implementation
The project was divided into four parts, each with its own objectives and deliverables: i) Requirements specification ii) Electro-optical optimization iii) Process development iv) Manufacturing The various parts were mainly carried out sequentially and new knowledge was used as a base for coming work. In those cases when internal competence were missing has research and development been carried out together with external partners, including ACREO, Sweden.
