Funding from Vinnova SEK 490 832
Project duration August 2014 - June 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The objective of the project was to develop a well-defined concept and implementation plan for a reuse village to be established close to Växjö recycling center in Växjö. The project also wanted to create a positive atmosphere around the idea, to sell it to politicians, civil servants and citizens and to pave the way for the actual establishment of the village. The project concept and plan is now in place and the funding is secured funding following a political decision, we therefore believe that the project objective and purpose has been achieved to our full satisfaction.

Results and expected effects

The project has achieved expected result and to some extent exceeded expectations as the project has facilitated the process towards a political decision to provide funding for construction of the Reuse village. The village is scheduled for completion in autumn 2017 and will then start collection, repair and sale of second-hand products and provide job opportunities for persons who have difficulties finding jobs in the traditional labor market. The Reuse village is seen as one of the present flagship initiatives within the vision of Växjö as the ´Greenest City in Europe´.

Approach and implementation

The project has been structured around seven work packages. Each work package was handled by a working group that met regularly to distribute information and share experiences and work together to resolve issues in the process. An overall project meeting was arranged once a month. A large number of meetings have been held with external stakeholders of those two were larger meetings (each with more than 50 participants) conducted for the general public as well as companies/organizations. The project worked closely with the university and the project was subject for two thesis projects.
