Purpose and goal
The purpose of contributing to Places2Be from Ericsson Modem has been to explore the potential and limitations with a modern Fully-depleted SOI CMOS process in the context of cellular radio circuits. This goal have partly been fulfilled by the design and evaluation of a VCO test-circuit and through the specification and design cooperation with Acreo . New knowledge and insights have been generated during the project. The final verification of these results through measurements of Acreo´s planned test-chip is still pending.
Results and expected effects
Through the work in this project, Ericsson Modem have acquired new knowledge about modern fully-depleted SOI CMOS processes which will improve the possibilities to make better future process choses in order to design comparative products in the field of cellular radio ASICs.
Approach and implementation
There has been a fruitful, well functional and mutually beneficial cooperation between Acreo and Ericsson Modem within this project. The cooperation with Lund University have been mutually rewarding and has made it possible to manufacture and evaluate the VCO test-chip given that the contribution to the project from ST-Ericsson/Ericsson Modem have changed substantially.
