Important results from the project

This project, namned ´Key Performance Indicators for the Process Industry (PiiA-metrics)´ has its focus on KPIs for the process industry. The project has aimed to find common KPIs used in the process industry today and to show how they differ depending on company characteristics. The project has also participated in the development of an international standard (ISO 22400 ´KPIs for Manufacturing Operation Management´) and of an implementation proposal for exchange of KPIs between different software applications, called KPI-ML (publicly available for free).

Expected long term effects

Expected results is that more process industry companies will show an increased interest in performance indicators, and, though its results and ISO 22400, find suitable KPIs to implement and use in the company. An additional expected effect, is that supplier companies will start use KPI-ML in their product offerings. Yet another result is that information and material related to KPIs have been introduced in educational courses, the effect of this will be that employees of tomorrow (today´s students) will have a better understanding of why and how to benefit from using KPIs.

Approach and implementation

The project was divided in three sub-parts, so called workpackages, each one with a clear focus. This has been good. If the project would have continued on for a longer time, the interaction between the three projects should increase. As a mean for dissemination of the results, publications (for academia and general public) have been used.
