Important results from the project

This project is focused on studying a number of different optical measurement techniques individual strengths and limitations to create recommendations of appropriate analytical methods for different topographies and later on by using result of this research to establish traceability within the field. The main objective of project is to increase competence in the areal surface topography sector at Swedish National Metrology Laboratory. This project is the second part of doctoral studies and will lead to Olena Flys dissertation in June 2020.

Expected long term effects

This project increase the knowledge of the interaction between surfaces and measurement technology in characterizing of the surface´s topographical properties, and in improving the NML technical capacity in order to support the manufacturing industry needs in relevant areas. The project delivers inputs to national and international standards and directives as well as useful guidelines. The results will facilitate further development of standards in new sectors with great needs for quality-assured measurement, strength and safety, for example in 3D Printing and Life Science.

Approach and implementation

The project builds on knowledge from a previous project initiated by VINNOVA´s Advisory Board for Metrology 2013 and is the second part focused on doctoral studies. The dissertation is moved to June 2020, and so the project did not keep the schedule. However, this extension provides an opportunity to investigate to a greater extent the effects of area measurement and characterization of additive-manufactured objects, which is demanded by Swedish industry.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
