Important results from the project
Our project was to create a digital Open Educational Resource, focused on programming and the usage of Open Data. The resource focused on the upper secondary upper courses in programming and web technology. The primary goal was to teach programming and web technology, which our resource accomplishes. We wanted the examples to be bases on Open Data, which many of the examples are. Especially the more advanced programming examples concerning how to make web applications. We have many examples that show how you can use open geographical data that we display on maps (these are also Open Data).
Expected long term effects
The resource is aimed at the secondary upper courses in programming as well as the courses in web technologies. All in all we have published several hundred A4 pages with material, dozens of examples and many fully complete example applications. We also have much more material in the pipeline which will be published shortly and we are in the process of creating even more. This material will be published continuously. Now we want to spread the materials to other schools.
Approach and implementation
The project was started during the summer holidays, this to ensure that as much of the material as possible should be finished before the school year commenced. The material has been used to teach students who study at our technical college. Much of the material has been tested and improved during lectures and thereafter been documented and published on our site. Some of the applications that our students have created will be published as examples on our site. We have seen that the thing that the students create can be very good examples of how you create applications based around Open Data.
