Purpose and goal

The main goal was to develop a course about innovation within biomedical engineering, targeted at healthcare professionals (clinicians, engineers etc). A second goal was to prepare for a future development of a distance course. In total, 31 persons attended the course and a total of 15 experts such as clinicians, entrepreneurs, business coaches, industrial designers were invited to hold inspirational lectures and workshops during a total of 4 days. Video recordings of lectures was done to prepare for future distance courses.

Expected results and effects

The participants stated that they were very satisfied with the course. They appreciated the networking and the contacts (with teachers and other participants) that were created during the course. A course evaluation was done. The lectures received an average rating of 4.1 of 5.0. The question ´Ho well did the course fulfill the expected learning outcomes´ was rated 3.7 of 5.0. The question ´Did the course meet your expectations´ got 4.6 out of 5.0.

Planned approach and implementation

A local project group (CMTF, Umeå) planned, organized and held the course. A course plan was developed together with the educational group within MT4H (´Gränsöverskridande utbildning´), which consisted of representatives from all biomedical nodes and from the industry. Teachers were invited within areas identified in the course plan. Participants were invited by the participating nodes. A web portal was also created, used for material, video recordings of lectures and for communication with students.
