Ocean test of Vigor Wave Energy Converter

Reference number
Coordinator VIGOR WAVE ENERGY AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 666 666
Project duration June 2014 - October 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The main goal of this project is to generate electricity from a Vigor Wave Energy Converter prototype installed at sea. The results will be used to verify calculations and with that present proof of concept. Theoretical calculations and simulations with regards to our concept reveal a potential for energy conversion that clearly outperforms our competitors. The project is of significant importance for the further development of the technology, a technology that could lead towards the world´s first cost effective method for converting wave energy into electricity.

Results and expected effects

The outcome of the project will be used to attract new investors to enable the next step in the commercialization of Vigor wave power converter. The expected result is that the prototype is installed and the various subsystems are verified as well as electric generation related to the wave climate. Results will be documented and used in presentations for potential future investors. These investments will be used to further develop the concept and create the next generation of Vigor wave power converter, V2.

Approach and implementation

Prior to ordering material for prototype V1, calculations and detailed design engineering need to be conducted as well as tests in the lab. Preparation of test site will run concurrently. This includes preparation of grid connection, data communications, marking of the test location at sea, etc. Schedule: Design work: Aug-Nov 2014 Lab tests, dimensioning and development of control: July - Dec 2014 Material delivery Oct - Dec2014 Installation: Dec 2014 - Jan 2015 Testing: Jan - Aug 2015 Analysis and Report: May - Oct 2015
