Purpose and goal

The aim of Northcone AB´s project is to develop and launch a new type of crash-safe street lighting column, manufactured by rollforming technology for variable cross-section, i.e. 3D rollforming. This new technology approach results in a unique construction, and enables a very fast manufacturing process. On completion of the project, the company will launch its first range of optimized, cost-effective street lighting columns a new design contributing to better road safety, easier management and reduced environmental impact.

Results and expected effects

Through intensive development efforts during the course of the project, several technical challenges have been solved and an initial product range has been developed. In parallel, solutions for 3D rollforming and other fabrication techniques have been developed by Northcone´s sister company Ortic AB. Northcone´s operations have been expanded, and the workforce has grown from two to four employees during the project. Market contacts have increased and sales potential is good, both in Sweden and internationally.

Approach and implementation

The development work has been carried out using Northcone´s own resources for product development and manufacturing, as well as through various partnerships with suppliers, institutes and universities in areas such as materials technology, calculations and testing. Northcone´s sister companies have also contributed specialist competence in the fields of production and rollforming technology. External collaboration has been necessary in order to secure the required skills and resources. These multidisciplinary contacts have also helped in solving complex problems.
