Important results from the project

The project´s aim was to further Nordic open knowledge/data cooperation through networking. This succeeded chiefly through Nordic Open Data Week (2015) multi-Nordic events. Wikipedia Sweden and Gapminder ran workshops in Helsinki, and inter-Nordic meetups around open government, myData were held. An inter-nordic open science event awaits. Previously lacking insight and motivation to Nordic cooperation has been invigorated. More regular conversations have ensued and cross-border projects are in progress.

Expected long term effects

The project resulted in a series of physical and online meetings. The meetings have gained Nordic open knowledge/data enthusiasts a greater perspective in open knowledge/data activities in other Nordic countries, and the benefits of cooperation. Moreover, the meetings have resulted in increased cross-Nordic cooperation and some concrete projects. There are already effects, and though a bit of hand-holding is likely required, Nordic cooperation should grow as an effect of this projects coaching and networking.

Approach and implementation

The hypothesis was that an overview and networking coaching would help Nordic open knowledge/data cooperation, as well this would benefit from historic Nordic Cooperation. In effect, people were positively welcomed hearing of initiatives in their own field in other (Nordic) countries, often unknown to them. Networking help was mostly appreciated. While people were open to and interested in collaboration, someone having an overview of developments in other countries, as well as a continuing coordinator capacity, was greatly beneficial to drive cooperation.
