Purpose and goal
In LIGHTer´s roadmap for lightweighting the importance of shorter development times is emphasized. This means, among other things, that the virtual toolbox must be developed. The purpose of NEXTCOMP is to reduce the time from experimental characterization to numerical material and fracture models, to promote new materials meeting the requirements regarding lightweight.
Expected results and effects
The numerical tools developed within the project have proven to be capable of producing material and fracture models in a time-efficient manner. There is thus a potential for reduced time consumption in the design phase of future structural components, where support is taken by numerical software.
Planned approach and implementation
Experimental methods and numerical tools have been developed to reduce the time from material selection to calibrated material and fracture model. The full-field measurements are then used in the numerical tool SMM developed in the project, to determine hardening curves and failure strains for isotropic and anisotropic materials.
