Coordinator Open Eye AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 4 089 900
Project duration October 2013 - December 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim was to increase the availability of Swedish crops and tying together the food chain for these products from grower to market. The need for a new type of player that connects actors in different sectors has led to the formation of a business organization Nordisk Råvara, managing knowledge, ideas and values generated by the project in order that these are not lost but will be parties and market share through continuous development. A large number of new products have come onto the market by Nordisk Råvara and by the partners´ own product lines.

Expected results and effects

The project has reached the goal of linking the food chain from cultivation to the consumer and create a platform for continuous development of plant based foods by the company Nordisk Råvara. Through Nordisk Råvara, the project´s knowledge, ideas and values are saved and made available for continued development of new Swedish food. The project has also created benefits for partners such as new product lines, collaboration with SLU and UU has increased knowledge of the conditions for cultivation and increased knowledge on crop impacts on health and allergy.

Planned approach and implementation

The background to the project is that it is difficult for a single player in the food chain to grow new crops with low environmental impact and refine these crops to new healthy foods and take them to processing and market. The project therefore created a new type of player that actively brings together all parties in the food chain and ensures that these parties can access knowledge, resources, technology and other preconditions that must be fulfilled, so that it becomes possible through collaboration to bring new crops to restaurants, catering, food industry and consumers.
