Important results from the project

The purpose of the project was to verify a new chemical engineering concept for the manufacturing of packaging material from renewable biobased raw material. The new concept is designed for being more resource efficient and less capital intense than currently commercially existing solutions. The project objective has been fullfilled and the obtained results are such that the concept can be seen as verified in laboratory environment.

Expected long term effects

We have shown that the theoretical calculations made during the development of the concept are correct and that there is no negative quality impact from pH during the process att all. We have thereby shown that the concept gives unique and very good properties to the packaging material in mind for production.

Approach and implementation

The project was initiated by the purchasing of laboratory services in May 2019 from a supplier with experience from chemical engineering based on biobased raw materials. Together with the selected supplier, a test protocol was designed in detail with process parameters according to the new concept and references and laboratory trials were carried out during summer. The produced material was tested for parameters of importance to packaging applications, including relevant strength parameters. Thereafter, the results were analyzed.
