Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to facilitate Swedish participation in international analysis projects on naturalistic traffic safety data and hence strengthen the Swedish competitiveness. The goals were to provide collected data, further develop SAFERs own platform for naturalistic data and facilitate for projects based on international datasets. The reduction of storage costs has enhanced the possibilities to provide data. SAFER´s platform has been further developed to meet future requirements and the platform is also the base for an international framework for re-use of data.
Expected long term effects
SAFER has a platform for naturalistic data today at considerably lower cost, which facilitates future financing. The analysis tools have been adjusted to future needs. SAFER has access to several interesting datasets. SAFER has also, based on the overall competence in the field, leading positions in several important international projects. The platform together with the SAFER´s prominent position enhance the visibility of SAFER´s competence and resources in the field and is expected to widen the network and lead to more analysis projects in the future.
Approach and implementation
The ND platform has on one side developed the necessary improvements to meet the future and made data available, on the other side participated in project proposals to raise the possibilities for further developments and testing of the concepts defined by the project ND platform. These developments have later been fed into the SAFER platform. The application to VR for management of the platform resulted in a planning grant. Together with Swedstore, new methods for storing naturalistic data has been developed taking into account the need for fast access to data during analysis.
