Purpose and goal

The major goal during 2017 was to demonstrate the project’s effectiveness in relation to the solutions of today, in order to ensure the project’s future. This was divided into three subgoals: 1. New functional prototype, 2. Design of relevant, reproducible tests, 3. Recruitment of test subjects, with the natural conclusion of performed and evaluated user tests based on these. The evaluation would then provide answer to the major goal, as well as guide the best way to proceed with the project and be used to find further funds.

Expected results and effects

Subgoal 1 and 2 are completed. Subgoal 3 is still in progress. In hindsight the work on this goal was started too late for all subgoals to be completed in before 2018, but the technological challenges with finalizing the prototype proved too time-consuming, that even if test subjects where at hand, it would not have been possible to perform any tests. The first user test is planned for the middle of February. Ultimately the major goal is not reached yet, but it should be before the end of Q1 2018.

Planned approach and implementation

Sensor solutions were explored and two separate were implemented and evaluated, as well as a new computer solution. New software for the sound synthesis and the concept, as well as for user friendly and robust calibration. A functional physical design for the prototype was built. The prototype was tested informally in order to identify possible improvements. User tests with the demography were designed and prepared. Steps to recruit test subjects were taken. A scientific research plan, an ethical application for user tests as well as applications for further funding were written.
