Reference number
Coordinator Lunds universitet - Fysiska Institutionen
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 200 000
Project duration July 2014 - December 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The overall aim of the project is to build on current activities and to develop a sustainable, long-term internship program that will be open to all PhD students within the Nanometer Structure Consortium. The specific aims are to develop the logistics, the legal framework, and a financial plan, to leverage ongoing projects to expand industry partnerships and to establish an efficient infrastructure for tracking progress, present use-cases and success stories, KPIs and tracking program alumni.

Expected results and effects

We intend to develop a sustainable nanotechnology internship program involving a strong consortium of Swedish and international companies and major research organizations. By focusing on private-sector challenges, the internship program will give early stage researchers experience in entrepreneurship, market-driven R&D and the knowledge-based economy. The vision is to make this mode of operation a new standard at the European level and open new job-markets for the highly educated employees of tomorrow.

Planned approach and implementation

The work is focused in four main areas: 1) Internship logistics - developing the logistics, procedures and legal templatesrequired to place doctoral students into internships in Swedish or international companies; 2) Building a sustainable internship program, answering questions such as: How can a nanotechnology internship program best provide added value to companies?; 3) Evaluation of participants and progress; and 4) Nanoscience academiaindustry interaction events.
