Important results from the project
Our Mother-child group have been on a huge journey of discovery since the project first introduction. They have learned how a 3D printer is constructed. We consider our participants to have grown in confidence, they have managed to construct complex machines. They have learned how to solder, read diagrams, use different manual tools as well as digital tools to create and run 3D in their printers. The printers are to a big extent built with ´junk´. Several components like cabling, screws, brackets and the like has been recovered from electronical waste eg. computers and printers.
Expected long term effects
We have added to our knowledge with the help of this new target group on how to make these technologies accessible to a larger group people. We have had many members engaged with a variety of competences and we have coordinated a large project with several project partners. Our participants have developed their attitude towards recycling by learning how to use ´junk´ to create new tools. We have presented the project at several meetups, fares and visits to schools. The project has received a lot of attention and interest in the educational areas, the Maker community and media.
Approach and implementation
The members of our association have been recycling material and made components to create a ´kit´. This kit has been used by the Mother-child groups to build a 3D printer in our arenas with the help of our members. We have completed 17 meetups and the project will continue this winter to look at the techniques needed to create their own 3D objects as well as exploring other tools (eg CNC and laser cutting)
