Important results from the project
The purpose with Mobile Services for Energy Efficiency in Existing Buildings (aka Elis) has been to promote development of mobile services that promote energy awareness and efficiency, in buildings not originally designed for this. The outcome has been an open integration platform for existing systems, sensors and services as much as is possible in order to identify challenges from a technical as well as user perspective. Through a state-of-the-art review we have not found any other initiative with this focus, which places Elis in a unique position.
Expected long term effects
(1) Users aware of data collection reduce their energy consumption, (2) visualization of this data leads to further reduction, (3) advanced services are needed for continuous service use, and (4) present business models are not applicable as users go from passive consumers to active users with a high degree of individualization, and energy producers become service providers. Expected outcome is that existing systems that are integrated with the Elis platform become more interesting and feasible to develop 3rd party services for.
Approach and implementation
Steering board meetings once every 3 months have supported the project operations well. 7 workpackage (WP) in accordance with the project plan. WP leader meatings 2 times per 3 months, with daily coordination for shared activities. Scrum-based prototype development, i.e. backlog for activities and Scrum board for prioritized activities with status follow-up. User involvement got going later than plenned, but was driving towards the end of the project. Appartments prioritized as case since technical evaluation of building case was a long showstopper.
