Mechanical whole engine conceptual design and analysis

Reference number
Coordinator Volvo Aero Aktiebolag
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 200 000
Project duration July 2009 - October 2011
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Mechanical whole engine conceptual design and analysisThis project is a continuation of the pilot study project NFFP4202 Mechanical whole engine modelling where a platform, together with a pilot that demonstrated the capability of the platform in an industrial scenario, was developed. This continuation project focuses on the development of the existing platform to incorporate optimization technology that through the product definition (jet engine components) enables balancing of more functional requirements (e.g. structural dynamics, aero dynamics and thermo dynamics) for effective analysis of whole engine concepts.

Results and expected effects

The result is a methodology including systems approach, model implementation, model architecture together with analyses, which is applied on a realistic scenario through a pilot (demonstrator).

Approach and implementation

1. Literature review and state-of-practice 2. Further development of platform 3. Definition of pilot 4. Development of pilot 5. Validation of platform 6. Project Review 7. Further development of platform and pilot 8. Further validation of platform via pilot. 9. Final report and presentation

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
