Reference number
Coordinator Swerea IVF AB - Avdelningen för processutveckling
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 067 000
Project duration November 2011 - February 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

One aim in the project was to create conditions for light, material-efficient products that can be manufactured in existing processing equipment in Swedish body shops. In the project knitting, joining and simulation methods has been further developed, laminates and demonstrators were evaluated. Another aim was to create a full industrial supply chain. This was difficult with a new material under development. Focused has been on preparatory steps that NABC, Chalmers and business contacts etc.

Results and expected effects

The laminate was examined in 3 demonstrators, experience was created on material and performance, simulation model was further developed, IPR was evaluated and work on business development was performed. Expertise was built up about knitting, joining and metal sheet input parameters etc. and how they affect the performance of the laminate and its formability. High and normal temperature laminates were developed. The project was presented at a program conference, and articles have been submitted.

Approach and implementation

The project is based on a team with expertise in product development, textile, metal, laminates, forming, joining, simulation and material characterization. The group includes Gestamp Hardtech, Outokumpu Stainless, Lamera, Swerea IVF, University of Borås and Inkubatorn i Borås. Main activities were material development, material manufacturing, metal forming studies, industrialization, application and business development. The unique laminate is formable and can be used in high temp. applications.
