Important results from the project
The project purpose was to develop a new sustainable and organic protein feed-ingredient based on sea squirts, and to test an initial business model for commercialization. Tests showed that sea-squirt, tunicate, based feed worked well and to a large extent can replace traditional marine protein sources, fish-meal. An initial business model has been tested and will used for further commercial development.
Expected long term effects
Positive results from feed tests enables further commercialization activities and are expected to result in test orders from aquaculturists and/or feed producers.
Approach and implementation
The sea squirt feed ingredient has been produced by Marine Feed Sweden AB. Feed tests have been performed by Nofima and aquaculturists. These customer cooperations will continue as well as cooperation with Nofima in several international R&D projects in the aquaculture segment.
