Purpose and goal

The purpose of the research project was to develop a model that support global product development organizations´ need to collect, store and use lessons learned from individual projects. The project has developed a model, illustrating four logics, which is based on fundamental dimensions that are important to support learning. The project has contributed to changes and improvements of the work procedures used by the participating companies regarding learning from and between projects.

Expected results and effects

Regarding fulfilment of the result and effect goals, the research project led to changes and improvements of the participating companies´ work procedures related to learning from and between projects. Also, material has been produced for use in courses that the researchers teach at their universities. The specified result and effect goals can hence be regarded to be fulfilled.

Planned approach and implementation

As planned, the research project followed the four phases: 1) Present-state analysis of existing lessons learned-methods and routines in the product development organizations at the companies, 2) Development, implementation and test of new methods, 3) Feedback from implementation and test activities, 4) Synthesis of results. The research approach was successful and led to changes and improvements at the participating companies as well as production of scientific results.
