Purpose and goal

Based on the research literature, the report describes the knowledge on macro level about: 1) The link between intellectual properties, innovations and economic growth. 2) Strategies of intellectual properties and how these affect economic growth and welfare. 3) How the government can affect the relationship between intellectual properties, strategies and economic growth with different policy instruments. An important purpose of the project has been to identify interesting research questions, where more research is needed. The purpose of the project has been fulfilled.

Expected results and effects

The report will be the basis of an announcement for funding research about the link between intellectual properties, innovations and economic growth/welfare the on the macro level. An important purpose of the report has been to emphasize white spots on the map and to identify interesting research questions that will need further research. In the report, we have identified several areas/issues that need further research. The report fulfills the expectations that were set up at the project start.

Planned approach and implementation

The literature in economics has been reviewed, as well as the literature in the border area of economics and law. Limitation: The report has not considered how individual firms handle their intellectual properties and how this creates value within the firms.
