Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to develop and evaluate a prototype fixture with respect to performance, function and costs, and to create a subcontractor network for the product. The purpose was to find a robust and cost-effective lightweight solution for fixturing when mounting / bonding hybrid joints consisting of CFRP and metal which during the process are cycled thermally in the span 20-120 C while being moved in a production line. The project has run according to plan and fulfilled the goal.
Expected long term effects
The prototype manufactured and the included materials that have been evaluated have shown very good technical performance while providing considerable weight savings. The results are expected to result in similar products being manufactured commercially where the project participants are part of a supplier network
Approach and implementation
Different laminate types and bonding techniques with adhesive have been verified for mechanical and thermal properties. The test has included DMTA, mechanical testing, CTE measurements with optical measuring system and the influence of thermal cycling. A prototype fixture was designed and manufactured with the verified materials. The prototype has been verified in tests where thermal cycling 20-120 C has been included.
