IPLA Global Forum 2013 on Sustainable Waste Management for the 21st Century Cities

Reference number
Coordinator Högskolan i Borås - Institutionen Ingenjörshögskolan
Funding from Vinnova SEK 50 000
Project duration June 2013 - September 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Waste Recovery International Partnership´s mission is to contribute to local development through international cooperation and simultaneously contribute to the business development of its related companies. Currently, companies, cities and universities have found new partners. Already established networks in Brazil and Indonesia have been further strengthened. New opportunities have emerged, especially include Russia, India, Ecuador and Colombia.

Results and expected effects

Following the conference, a number of requests from countries as above regarding the establishment of new international networks received. WR expects that some of these will develop into real projects, including knowledge transfer, innovation and business opportunities.

Approach and implementation

The conference (The Forum) was organized in collaboration between WR (Borås, Borås Energy and Environment, SP Swedish National Testing and Research Institute and the University of Borås) and UNCRD. The planning and cooperation for the conference functioned well. It is noted that in a knowledge triangle the partners have to monitor the entire triangle interests, not just their own organization. The format of the conference with a mix of lectures, panel discussions and matchmaking was successful. The remaining problem is the necessary work to follow up the new opportunities.
