Purpose and goal

In this project we have made it possible for ERP systems to provide simple, flexible shipping support. For example, users can quickly select and purchase an appropriate shipping service directly in their ERP. By developing and verifying this functionality, the project´s goal has been met. The solution will be extended, packaged and marketed to suppliers of ERP systems, developers of modules for ERP systems and businesses that need to add shipping support in their proprietary business systems.

Expected results and effects

The project has resulted in a working API that enables the incorporation of shipping support in ERP systems. We knew from the onset that ERP system applications posed some new challenges, and that some extensive adaptations would need to be done on our core shipping management system (Fraktjakt). However, it turned out to be relatively simple to limit the project´s application area to a reasonable subset of services that can be effectively packaged. On the other hand, the project has shown that our ERP shipping support interface may need to be extended to support specific target systems.

Planned approach and implementation

The project conprised the following activities: 1. Selection of target environment, 2. Need analysis, 3. Design and specification of functionality for ERP applications, communication interfaces and user interfaces, 4. Pilot integration with an ERP module, 5. Technical specification for further implementation and packaging.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
