Purpose and goal
The aim to develop a methodology for open innovation is emerging as an important process to drive R&D in the food industry. The need for support with innovation among SMEs is high, reflected by the positive reception we have received from industry representatives during work The objective of developing project ideas in order to develop a strong application for the second part (B-application) has resulted in that we have formulated four sub-projects and that eight companies and one municipality are included in the application.
Results and expected effects
Four research areas have been developed in interdisciplinary constellations together with one or more industry representing different parts of the production chain. This after a selection of the sub-projects from the A-application based on two criteria 1) whether the sub-projects has the potential to lead to innovation for the business partner and 2) if the sub-project has research approach within the focus area; plant cell and processing of foods.
Approach and implementation
The starting point for this work has been an active outreach. An interactive process has been created by contacts between companies and researchers where issues like industrial problems and possible solutions were discussed in several meetings and finally formulated into realistic research questions for the B-application. For all four sub-projects, we have prioritized to work individually with each sub-project and the companies in its value chain.
