Important results from the project

The project Innovative international collaboration on women´s health is initiated by 1.6 & 2.6million club in Sweden, in cooperation with Mhani Gingi and 1.6 Million Club South Africa. The plan was to execute a seminar in Cape Town, followed by a number of meetings before continuing a future partnership. The project includes planning, implementation and monitoring. The latest seminar reached higher attendance than expected. More than 400 people participated in a full day seminar including Swedish and South African medical experts on women´s health issues on a broad perspective.

Expected long term effects

The expected result of the project is in addition to conduct seminar and workshops, as well as the long-term result to increase the cooperation between the organizations 2016 and onwards, an expansion of 1.6 & 2.6 million club concept also in Cape Town. That means both discussions with the group of medical experts on topics and initiatives and in the next steps planning for a future joint seminar in August 2016. Due to South Africa´s official Women´s Day in August, it would be favorable to highlight women´s health issues to increase knowledge in broad groups of women this particular month.

Approach and implementation

Planning for the seminar and the meetings was conducted in an open dialogue between the parties with proposals from both sides regarding the content, the speakers and the implementation. Most of the practical work was conducted by local staff of Mhani Gingi on site. The venue of the seminar, Jubilee Church was spacious and suitable for our needs, considering the large number of participants who also was served lunch during the seminar. Local sponsors showed interest and was included. The open dialogue was a success, as well as the fast and effective communication.
