Increased mental health of young people through counseling and e-health tools

Reference number

Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 146 000
Project duration May 2018 - April 2021
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose has been for young people to be reached by preventive measures to prevent mental illness. In collaboration with the target group, we have created a solution that fills a "gap" in the support society offers young people today. We provide easily accessible existential conversations in combination with knowledge and the opportunity to support others. The solution can be offered throughout Sweden in partnership with municipalities, regions, state and private actors. It can be an important preventive support for young people who feel bad, but do not need psychiatric care.

Expected results and effects

Genom S: t Lukas´ role as an idea-driven actor with professional competence, the solution can complement public activities. The project is now in the phase of implementing and scaling up. We have applied for funding to be able to open the reception as a pilot activity after the summer and collaboration is planned with a region around a new youth portal where this service is intended to be included. The service can also act as a link, in that professional psychotherapists can refer on if necessary. An initial evaluation is expected to be completed by the turn of the year 2021/22.

Planned approach and implementation

In the first part of the project 2018-19, a mobile app was developed using a licensed software. This was used in the sharp tests with the target group. In the tests, it became clear that the availability of conversations and the opportunity to chat were crucial for the target group. The psychotherapists who would use the service also did not want to use an external booking system. We decided in 2020 to discontinue the license of software and instead develop our own web-based service to avoid running costs and increase availability. All this with St. Luke´s own systems as a base.
