Purpose and goal
The traditional EU classroom consists of one teacher who supports 23 students applying a “one size fits all” pedagogical approach. To reform this method IMAILE PCP has challenged the market to develop innovative technology based upon the common need of an increased demand of personalized learning listing the following challenges: Save teachers time Full-scale personalized learning approach in primary and secondary education Increase motivation in STEM and interest in STEM careers Reduce early drop-outs by 15%
Expected results and effects
EU: s first PCP project in the Education sector, IMAILE (www.imaile.eu) has been successfully completed, providing hard evidence on PCP as an efficient tool to strengthen the European Education sector. IMAILE results confirm that the smart and innovative Personal learning Environments (PLE: s) developed via the PCP has provided pedagogical, financial and technological benefits, as well as important lessons learned for all stakeholders, beyond the expectations. A follow up project LEA will take over IMAILE legacy from 2018 2020
Planned approach and implementation
In 2015, four European procurers launched a PCP call for tender of research and development services of innovations to solve an increased demand of personalized learning. In the first PCP phase 7 suppliers were awarded framework contracts for solution design exploration. In the second PCP phase, 4 suppliers were selected to renew their contracts to further develop their concept into prototypes. The two most promising solutions were selected to PCP phase 3 for tests in real classrooms with 45 teachers and 600 students. In 2018 AMIGO and YIPTREE STEM PLE: s were presented to the market.
