Important results from the project
The project has created readily available hydrographic data and made the data easy to combine with other data sources by involving partners, stakeholders and users during the work. The main partners are Lantmäteriet och SMHI and the main aim was to make hydrographic data available to customers. Both partners have contributed with effective working ways and procedures as well as making sure data is quality ensured. External stakeholders has been informed and kept up to date through presentations at conferences, user tests and through workshops.
Expected long term effects
Each object in the hydrographic data, such as lakes and streams, are represented with a unique identifier within a hydrographic network. This makes it possible to connect other data sources to the hydrographic data. The network enables for example users to do analysis of pollution of waterways and gives the possibility to calculate spread in the network. It is expected that the new data will make it easier for stakeholders to perform preventative environmental work and to make this work more effective. This will be ensured on local and regional areas as well as for international reporting.
Approach and implementation
Hydrographic map data has been updated. Lakes and rivers have been linked to show the direction of how the water flows from the water sources to the sea. External users have tested and evaluated contents of the data and the format of the product. The requirements were completed based on standards and feedback from users. New web services has been developed and customized to standards. GML is used to deliver the new products. Working procedures have been developed for production and provision of hydrographic data. These will be used in the future for keeping the products up to date and current.
