Purpose and goal

In this pilot, we worked with design as a part of everyday life at the health center Rud. The project has involved staff / patients using design methods in order to develop solutions and a person-centered care. Lessons from the project are collected in two reports. A. Conditions for a Health center 2.0. B. Design based methods in the public sector. The first is a report of the work at Rud. The latter is a joint report from the pilots. We want to highlight that the project has played a central and important role in the development of initiative Experio Lab.

Results and expected effects

The project has created a range of different solutions, and contributed to a culture and an attitude at the health center that creates the conditions for development of a person-centered care. The project has created deep insights about the complexity in health care in general and in primary care specifically. It has also created insights about how design methods should be adapted and developed to work in a health care context. These insights are presented in point form in the attached report.

Approach and implementation

The pilot was carried out by placing a designer at the health center as part of everyday life. The designer was supported by, and contributed to the development of Experio Lab that in parallel with the project developed into a hub for innovation with design as a method at the County Council of Varmland. To build capability, the project used own staff without greater use of external resources. This is a change compared to the initial budget. The approach has offered unique opportunities to generate insights about the complexity of primary care and around using design in this context
