Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to increase the ability of the Swedish innovation and business support system, in accordance with the government´s gender equality policy goal to attain the same power of women and men to shape society and their own lives. The aim has been achieved by close cooperation between academic, industrial and societal partners to challenge masculine norms in innovation through documentation, analysis and development of methods for `gendered social innovation´.

Expected long term effects

The project´s expected impact in the short term was the development of quality-assured knowledge of methods for practical gender equality efforts in innovation and business promotion services that can be disseminated and used by other organizations in the innovation and business support system to increase gender equality in their organizations and services. This has been achieved through continuous dialogue with relevant actors and the development of a handbook on `gendered social innovation´.

Approach and implementation

The project has been implemented in the form of participatory knowledge and method development by researchers from Luleå University of Technology, business developers at LTU Business and the Swedish Industrial Design Foundation, and representatives from the organizations WINNET, Magma and Leia. Each organization´s activities have been jointly documented and analyzed at recurring seminars to identify key ingredients in `gendered social innovation´.
