Important results from the project
This project aimed to understand the thoracic loading of the upgraded THOR in frontal and oblique loading conditions using current and state of the art restraint systems. The project also aimed to evaluate injury criteria presented by the EU-THORAX project. The project has generally fulfilled the targets. Knowledge for usability, repeatability and weaknesses with the physical THOR dummy has been delivered. Good understanding of the CAE model has been achieved through collaboration with Humanectics.
Expected long term effects
With the validated FE THOR development projects can now evaluate the effects of a better tool than HIII . To use the most advanced tools will help Swedish industry to maintain the leading position in the world , and enable the contribution to reducing injuries and fatalities occupants of the car.
Approach and implementation
The project was implemented by arrangement but due to its focus on developing and validating FE THOR been the doll´s response in relation to human-like response , THUMS could not be carried to the desired extent .
